My daughter sent a photo to to me that read “Some people get confused if a sentence does not end as they potato.” I posted it on my door at work. People stop, read it, and do one of two things: chuckle, and move along, or peer at it, look at me, leave, come back and ask, “What does that mean? This made me think about how we write. If we don’t write as people expect, they will get confused. If we write exactly as they expect, they will be bored. Perhaps the challenge is to write as they expect…but about potatoes that make them think.
